Q: When did you realize that music was your destiny?
A: At 10 years old when I started performing in my living room with my own homemade stage, makeshift microphone [while] envisioning thousands of people in front of me.
Q: Which artists or albums have most influenced your style as an artist?
A: I grew up on Blues music and songwriters like James Taylor but I had a heavy influence of 90’s/2000’s R&B and Hip Hop as well. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé all had a big influence on me. I was infatuated with these incredible powerhouse pop soulful vocals.
Q: What is the most exciting part of music for you? Writing, recording, performing?
A: I can’t choose! All three of these elements are extremely special to me! Writing a piece of music can be very liberating and it allows me to use my experiences and emotions to relate to other people, which I think is the most incredible thing about music. I love recording because it forces me to be disciplined. I love to push myself and I am very particular about my sound. It also allows me to try out new things! Performing is just the cherry on top of the pie for me. It’s a roller coaster at times but at the end of the day there is no better feeling than being on stage and having a crowd really love what you do as an artist.
Q: What can we expect from your live show?
A: My live show is in a transformation stage right now. I love to perform acoustic and a lot of people expect me to always perform that way but this year I am experimenting with lots of new music, and live performance, so I will be dropping my guitar and rocking out with just my voice and a DJ. It will be very Urban-Pop/Dance influenced.
Q: How does it feel to be a part of CMW?
A: It’s a very exciting feeling for me! I am debuting a whole new sound and it’s also my first time performing here in Toronto.
