It’s impossible to see all the great acts performing during Canadian Music Week but one tries anyway! Here are TWM’s Tuesday CMW picks.
Last year I kicked off CMW with a little jazz and this year another jazz performer has caught my eye. Mary McKay has a quirky stage presence and a warm soulful voice that is bound to draw you in. Check her out at The Lobby Lounge @ Shangri-La Hotel at 7pm tonight.
Julian Taylor’s Band will be performing at the Hideout tonight at 9:00PM. Taylor’s voice is fantastic and reminds me a bit of Gerald Eaton’s (would love if they did a duet). The band knows how to get you out of your seat, and keep you moving for their entire set. Check them out!
Israeli band Stellar Lane is 90s throwback, singing grunge rock with a nostalgic essence. Check them out at the Bovine Sex Club at 10pm.
The Hard Rock Cafe has rap and R&B happening all night. But it is JOZEM that is the most interesting act taking the stage. Catch him @ 10pm.
For those who want to stay in one place and keep it real mellow, Central is the spot to be. The following bands will be keeping it singer-songwriter for most of the night.
Matt Walters, Central@ 9pm.
Greg Janssen, Central @ 10pm.
Montreal duo The Waiting Game will be at the Cameron House – Backroom 11:00Pm. (Take a listen here).
And for the night owls who want to to shake off the mellow vibe of the night, head over to see Anomalie playing electronic jazz. It will be like a shot of espresso.
